Compatibility:
With the popularity of African Cichlids, Synodontis became more in demand as a fish that was compatible with them. One unfortunate side effect of their reputation as being compatible with African cichlids was that they also gained an undeserved reputation for being agressive. I have successfully kept several types with angels, gouramis, American cichlids and even tetras. The exception here would be the three predatory species: S. acanthomias, S. notatus, and S. schal which are still not agressive fish, but will eat smaller fish.
